Cinnamon Roll Hero
On a plate or on a page?
Who doesn’t love a warm, cinnamon roll and its soft irresistible goodness? It’s hard to turn our backs on one fresh out of the oven, with sweet aromas surrounding us with temptation.
How do you feel about a cinnamon roll hero in a romance novel?
He is a hero who is the go-to good guy, supportive through tough times, and kindness at the center of his core. Nope, you can’t walk all over him; he stands steadfast in his beliefs. A good story features a strong heroine paired with our cinnamon roll guy and together they are an unbeatable force who meets any challenge.
While desirable cinnamon roll heroes often take center stage, especially in Hallmark movies, there is still demand for our alpha heroes.
According to a Harlequin romance glossary, an alpha hero is a “strong, assertive hero who is in charge and oozes power. He knows he wants the heroine and will do anything to be with her. Think the CEO who’s in charge of everything in the boardroom – and out of it.”
Rhett Butler’s epic love for Scarlett O’Hara has been analyzed endlessly and he’s characterized as the ultimate alpha hero. Many qualities hint at a gooey center: he supports Scarlett and her goals, is not afraid to laugh at himself, and is willing to be vulnerable.
In The Unexpected Gift (my pre-published contemporary romance), the hero, Tad, has a “golden retriever-y” sweetness layered with a mouth-watering alpha-flavored glaze.
This blended cinnamon roll hero is a perfect recipe.
