Kindness is a Thing

What is free, always in style, and never goes out of season? Kindness.

So, what does February mean to you? Valentine’s Day? Heart Health Month? President’s Day sales for the shopaholics among us? All good answers. But let’s not forget something else February brings: Random Acts of Kindness.

Yes, there is actually a day for it. February 17. One whole day dedicated to stepping outside ourselves and thinking about someone else. And no, I am not just talking about using your best “company manners” at a restaurant or offering a polite smile in passing.

I mean real kindness. The kind that comes from the heart.

A simple, sincere gesture can completely change someone’s day. You do not need to organize a huge charity event or sign up for a big volunteer project. Sometimes it is as easy as checking in on an elderly neighbor. Maybe even showing up with a plate of cookies.

Little things go a long way.

Choices Make a Difference

  • Pay for the coffee of the person behind you in line.
  • Help someone carry their groceries.
  • Donate blankets or clothes to a local shelter.
  • Leave a thank you note for your mail carrier.
  • Let someone go ahead of you in the checkout line.
  • Hold the door open for someone and actually smile while doing it.

These moments may seem small, but they add up. To someone having a rough day, they can mean everything.

There is an old saying: “Throw kindness around like confetti.”

I love that.

So, grab a handful. Toss it generously. Sprinkle it everywhere you go.

Let’s be kind.
